About Our Studio
The Leadlight by Ettore glass studio was founded in 1988, by Ettore Di Pilla in his shed workshop at his home in Woodend. In the early 80’s Ettore was a stay at home father to his two daughters and a flower grower, when he discovered his love of glass while completing a one off panel for their family home.
After growing up in the studio with her father, Rhain moved to Melbourne for University and a career in IT before deciding she really wanted to join her father in the glass studio in 2011. After years at craft markets in and around Melbourne and attending trade fairs to sell their glass wares they decided to focus more on teaching and began looking for a new studio in 2016. In 2017 the studio was moved into a custom built teaching studio in The Old Auction House Creative Hub in Kyneton.
The studio is now run by both Ettore & Rhain and is primarily a Glass Arts teaching studio with over 90 students enrolled in their 7 weekly classes each term as well as over 300 weekend workshop students each year. The glass studio teaches and produces work in many glass mediums and techniques including System 96 glass fusing and slumping, copper foil/Tiffany Method, Leadlighting, Mosaics, Sandblasting, Laser Etching/Engraving.
Works by the studio span multiple continents from the smallest glass jewellery items to large leadlight window commissions. The studio creates new commissions to individual specifications as well as repairing and restoring old or damaged panels, and also runs a wide variety of classes in many areas of glass crafts allowing students access to the materials, tools, and knowledge which comes from our experience in the industry.
We hope Leadlight By Ettore hope that the examples of the work on this web site will inspire you to go out and create your own glass projects. Feel free to contact us about any aspects of our studio and we will be more than happy to help you out.
